Information on how to bet
Having a flutter is an essential part of the fun of coming racing.
If you have never had a bet before, don’t worry – it’s easy and simple – and there is nothing like cheering your winner home.
Simply follow 3 easy steps…
Pick Your Winner!
Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours. Why not go to the Parade Ring to view the horses and jockeys before the race and choose your horse there? Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’. A guide to help you understand the form is found in the Race Programme which every racegoer receives at the entrance.
Where to Place your Bet
You can choose to place your bet in four different places at the racecourse
- In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘Bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the Bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
- With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
- At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a High Street betting shop.
- At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.
Place your Bet
Decide how much you want to stake and what type of bet you would like to place. Bets can be any amount you choose with a typical minimum of only £2.00
Then cheer your selection home!
Helpful Hints
You will find helpful people to guide you at all the betting points throughout the Racecourse. There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet…
- Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race starts.
- Keep your betting receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
- Don’t throw away your ticket until the Racecourse announcer says “Weighed In”. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Steward’s enquiry’
Good luck!
