Operations Manager - competitive Salary + benefits

Musselburgh Racecourse is firmly established as one of 'The Best Small Racecourses' in Great Britain, with a reputation for quality and innovation. Rated as a 5 Star Visitor Attraction, the Racecourse offers the best in venue hospitality with award-winning facilities and is renowned as one of Edinburgh and Lothianís top leisure, corporate and sporting venues.

An exceptional opportunity now exists for an outstanding individual to take up the role of Operations Manager.  This is a pivotal appointment for an appropriately experienced professional to become an integral part of the management team, supporting the Senior Operations and Commercial Manager in setting and delivering the Annual Operations Plan successfully, effectively and within budget.

This will involve:

  • Developing the Annual Operations Budget and managing spending across the year with clear record keeping
  • Successfully delivering Annual Plans for entertainments and raceday suppliers
  • Overall control of the planning and implementation of all race day and event operations including:
    • Raceday set up
    • Co-ordination of raceday and event staff, including customer facing entrance teams, security, cleaners
    • Liaising with the Catering Manager to agree and arrange temporary food outlets for racedays
    • Arranging temporary facilities and structures as requirements
    • Planning all raceday and event H&S requirements

  • Managing suppliers, maintaining excellent working relationships to ensure excellent provision for racedays and events
  • Working closely and conducting regular meetings with key external parties as required including Police and regulatory bodies
  • Managing Racecourse Health and Safety obligations including regular meetings with Health and Safety Officer
  • Developing a good understanding of the fundamental infrastructure of the racecourse, both under and above ground
  • Identifying and delivering projects that enhance the visitor experience
  • Assisting the dedicated team to ensure excellent customer experience to all visitors in line with 5 Star VisitScotland

 

The ideal applicant will have significant and successful career in events and/or facilities management, ideally gained within the sports or hospitality industries and supported by appropriate qualifications. A thorough understanding of crowd dynamics, traffic management and spectator health and safety will be essential. Further advantageous skills include exceptional communication, excellent project management with advance planning, and effective management of departmental budget. The successful applicant will become an ambassador for Musselburgh Racecourse, and as such will be dynamic and ambitious with enthusiasm for the Racecourse and the role.

Marketing Manager (Maternity Cover) - competitive Salary + benefits

Rated as a 5 Star Visitor Attraction, the Racecourse offers the best in venue hospitality with award-winning facilities and is renowned as one of Edinburgh and Lothianís top leisure, corporate and sporting venues.

Reporting to the Senior Operations and Commercial Manager, the Marketing Manager will be responsible for promotion of the Racecourse throughout the UK both commercially and to the public, ultimately increasing exposure and brand awareness via the delivery of marketing, PR and promotional activity with a large focus on digital.

The role will include:

  • Successfully managing all activity relating to the agreed 2017 marketing campaign
  • Delivering the marketing budget and invoice management to monitor commercial income and control costs
  • Identifying opportunities to increase exposure and brand awareness
  • Co-coordinating the PR and promotional activity to ensure relevant materials are developed on time and on message
  • Reviewing and regularly updating content across the Racecourse website, social media and app communication tools
  • Progressing all Racecourse press, radio and other advertising campaigns
  • Design and production of all Racecourse promotional literature
  • Managing the administration of the annual members scheme and organizing members  events
  • Generating business through identifying potential sponsors and building key relationships
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external
  • Working alongside the Operations & Hospitality department for the delivery of events, to ensure 5 star customer and client experience across raceday and non-raceday events

 

Candidates will need to demonstrate a flair for promotion and marketing strategy, with excellent project management skills and a high level of attention to detail. The ideal applicant is likely to have a minimum of 2 yearsí experience in a marketing environment, preferably acquired within a venue or conference arena in the hospitality or sporting industries. Some experience in racing, supported by attendance on the BHA graduate scheme (or equivalent) whilst not essential would be advantageous. Excellent IT and administrative skills are essential, along with the positive, hands-on attitude essential to success.
