A frozen track and prolonged sub-zero temperatures forced the East Lothian track to abandon its two day National Hunt festival over the February 2 and 3 weekend.

However, Musselburgh will bounce back on Sunday (10 Feb) with an eight race fixture featuring prize money of more than £160,000, including the £40,000 bet365 Edinburgh National over four miles.

Other key races on the card include the Listed £25,000 bet365 Scottish Triumph Hurdle, the £20,000 Albert Bartlett Scottish Trial Novice’s Hurdle, and the £20,000 Pertemps Handicap Hurdle qualifier.

Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, Bill Farnsworth, said: “Despite a valiant effort by our ground staff, we were very disappointed to lose the bet365 Scottish Cheltenham Trials weekend due to circumstances out with our control.

“However, working closely with the BHA, we are delighted to be able to stage this new fixture, which promises a cracking day of high quality jumps racing. I am confident the £160,000 prize fund will catch the attention of the country’s leading stables and provide a fitting test for horses which could be serious contenders at the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals.”

Entry deadline is noon tomorrow (Tues 5 February) with declarations at the 24 hour stage. Gates open at 11am on Sunday and admission is £20 in advance, £25 on the day.
