Racecourse cooks up a storm for New Year’s Day event

Musselburgh Racecourse’s New Year’s Day fixture returns with best ever foodie experience

 

Pop-up street food outlets from a Masterchef Professionals winner are part of a bumper foodie offering awaiting racegoers at the upcoming Musselburgh Racecourse New Year’s Day meeting.

 

The prestigious social event, which returns on the 01 January and is supported by Fitzdares is boasting its largest ever selection of food vendors, to help revellers see in the new year in style.

 

Seven of Scotland’s best street food providers will serve up a huge range of treats, from Well Hung and Tender’s burgers and chips, Dog N Bon’s hot dogs and loaded fries and Slumdog’s Indian cuisine.

 

Fife-based Masterchef champion Jamie Scott’s Smoking Barrells will serve barbecue chicken and gourmet grilled with his Cheese on Coast concept.

 

Aisling Johnston, Commercial Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “New Year’s Day is about providing a complete and unrivalled day out – and amazing food is central to that.

 

“We welcome a diverse group of revellers at this event, so we want to make sure all taste buds are delighted with what’s on offer. Pop up horse box bars will also serve up a selection of mulled wine, mulled cider and rum cocktails courtesy of Heritage Portfolio.

 

“Our annual event always provides a day of fun for everyone no matter what age – so if you’re looking for a great day out on New Year's Day, in and around Edinburgh then make sure to come along.

 

“The event is on course to sell out so to avoid disappointment, we would encourage that revellers get their tickets in advance!”

 

Advanced Adult tickets currently cost £40 - book before midnight 31st December to save £5 per person - on the day, will cost £45. Children 17 years and under go free

Notable races include The Hogmaneigh Hurdle and The Auld Reekie Steeple Chase which have £30,000 prize money each. ITV Racing will cover both races.

 

The New Year Sprint – one of Scotland’s oldest sporting competitions – returns to the racecourse after a two year hiatus and will see top athletes compete in a 110m dash for a £3500 cash prize.
