Female Jockeys Take Centre Stage At Stobo Castle Ladies Day

The East Lothian track will be the first Scottish racecourse to support The Silk Series which helps promote female jockeys in the sport while raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Silk Series covers 13 races at UK racecourses and offers £150,000 in prize money, with the £20,000 final taking place at the William Hill St Leger Festival at Doncaster in September.

At the capacity sell-out Stobo Castle Ladies Day, the final race on the seven-race card is the £8400 The Silk Series Lady Riders ProAm Handicap.

Bill Farnsworth, Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, said: “We are delighted to support The Silk Series, which is a fantastic initiative, and with more than 10,000 racegoers attending Stobo Castle Ladies Day, the vast majority of whom will be female, this is the ideal stage to promote and support female jockeys in our sport.”

Jockey Hollie Doyle, who has had more than 100 career wins and acts as ambassador for The Silk Series, said: “The Silk Series offers a number of the female jockeys the opportunity to ride that they might not have had before, and the chance to ride for new trainers as well, which is key to helping progress your career.”

Stobo Castle has more than £105,000 in prize money on offer over seven Flat races, which includes the £40,000 Listed race, the Stobo Castle Ladies Day Gold Cup.
