Racing Review - The Max Recycle Raceday 2025

Read our Office Manager Jill's racing review, following the Max Recycle Raceday.

Monday 13th October 2025

The unseasonably warm weather of late finally made way for an autumnal, chilly mist on our Max Recycle Raceday on Monday 13th October 2025. But despite the cooler temperature, we still got off to a hot start with our Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Stakes. Jockey Eireann Cagney notched up his second victory here with Craig Lidsters “Triple Force”, justifying favouritism & a long journey up from Malton!

A first-time hood seemed to make all the difference for “The Resdev Scholar” who picked up his first win in our seller race, with Jo Mason doing the steering for Nick Bradley Racing.

After a busy summer “Vince L’Amour” finally went one better for trainer Tim Easterby after hitting the bar a few times in recent weeks in the third.

In the fourth race, Jim Goldie’s “Trojan Sun” picked up his fourth career win, all of which have been here at Musselburgh. Lauren Youngs strong front-running ride made sure no one passed them and also edged the Glasgow trainer back into the lead of our 2025 Trainers Championship.

The EBF Premier Fillies Handicap Stakes had £25K on offer and saw three previous course & distance winners line up for the spoils. In a hotly contested race, it was the Grant Tuer trained filly, “Bellarchi”, who followed up her win here on Ladies Day in August, giving owner Nick Bradley Racing a double for the day – taking them to the top of the Flat Championship table on six wins.

A high number of entries in the Melissa, Arabella & Oriana Hawthorne Handicap Stakes added an extra race into the card, with trainers Michael & David Easterby winning both halves of the division. Jo Mason got her second winner of the day in the first, with “Carolus Magnus” in the Battenburg colours of Ursa Major Racing, finding it a piece of cake! Billy Garritty followed nicely up with joint favourite “Carlton & Co” in the second.

Our final race of the day was won by a nose by “Thunderstorm Katie”, Jim Goldie’s smart filly, who has really come on this summer following wind surgery. Winning jockey Paul Mulrennan now ties Sam James & Joe Fanning for the Jockey’s Championships as we head into the last flat Musselburgh fixture of the year!
