The Edinburgh Cup meeting at Musselburgh on Saturday (14 Sept) is shaping up to be a cracking contest with a quality-packed field.

Trainer Keith Dalgleish has the top rated horse in the £40,000 feature race (4.40pm) in Dark Lochnagar on a mark of 88 who last won at Chester in July. His second entry is the topically named Euro Implosion who is looking for a fourth successive win and is the only previous course winner in the line-up following his win over 1m 4f at Musselburgh last month.

Middleham trainer Mark Johnston is also double-handed with Lord Lamington and Anyonecanhaveitall, the latter of whom scored over this trip at Lingfield recently. First-time visored Hydroplane a three-time winner already this season, is a rare Musselburgh runner these days for Sir Mark Prescott, however the Newmarket-based trainer has an excellent overall career course haul of 58 winners and a strike-rate of 30 per cent.

Just Hubert, partnered by Graham Lee, is trained in Lambourn by William Muir and was fifth in the highly-competitive Melrose Handicap at York last month, following on from a win at Sandown

Ian Williams has enjoyed success on the Flat and over jump at Musselburgh and his representative Champagne Marengo rattled off a four-timer in the space of a month during the summer.

Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, Bill Farnsworth, said: “We have a lot of quality on show at Musselburgh on Saturday and with a good forecast we could enjoy a decent attendance of more than 4000.

“The Edinburgh Cup has a strong following, both from trainers and owners and our regular race goers who enjoy the mix of competitive racing and entertainment. With a good weather forecast Saturday is shaping up to be a fantastic day out for all who enjoy horse racing.”

Gates open at 2pm and the first race has been brought forward to 3.30pm due a race division. The final race is at 7.15pm which is followed by live music from top bands on the Courtyard Stage.
