GARY RUTHERFORD will be hoping a change of equipment will result in a return to form for Simple Star in the ‘Celebrating Veteran Armed Forces’ Selling Handicap at Musselburgh.

First-time cheekpieces are added to a tongue-tie as the gelding, locally owned by Doreen Monteith, runs for the third time since leaving Dianne Sayer for his new Jedburgh handler.

A three-time course winner on the Flat, the eight-year-old has also two wins over hurdles to name at Perth.

Simple Star line up in a competitive race against fellow course winners such as Mayor Of Maghera, Falcon Nine and Miners Gamble.

Blakefell, trained by Ivan Furtado, is the only one boasting course and distance winning form in the Ina And Ella Macgregor Handicap over seven-furlongs.

The Yorkshire raider was returning from wind surgery when scoring off a 3lb lower mark in May and has finished second and third on his only other visits to the East Lothian venue.

Proceedings get underway with the Irish EBF Maiden Stakes in which John & Sean Quinn-trained The Mean Fiddler bids to go one better after finishing a close second in both starts so far at Pontefract and Ripon.
