ICE SOVEREIGNS made all the running to land the £25,000 feature race on the penultimate Flat card of 2026 at Musselburgh.
Formerly trained by Charlie Johnston, she was making just her second appearance for Richard & Peter Fahey as she kept on gamely in the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap.
Winning jockey Shane Gray said:
“Drawn seven of seven it was the only option we had if he jumped well from the gate and that’s what happened. I put the brakes on coming into the bend and, again nobody wanted to take us on, so I kicked again.
“She’s small but a good-looking filly and there’s plenty there. I haven’t had a lot to do with her as it’s my first time sitting on her and it all worked out well in the end.”
Ibn Altheeb was a surprise winner of the Join Racing TV Now Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap to supply James Hills with the second strike of his career on his first ride at the track.
Trained by Iain Jardine, the 18/1 chance got the better of Filly Eilish by a neck with short-priced favourite Motawaared back in third.
Jardine competed a 141/1 double when Jack Nicholls-ridden JKR Cobbler showed improved form to take the Musselburgh Members Handicap.
Donna Beauty, trained by Charlie Johnston, was retained without a bid after pipping Fern Clyde by a head in the Kick Start Your Career With The SRA Selling Stakes.
A very well-backed 13/8 favourite, she was given a power-packed ride by Ryan Sexton to led inside the final furlong.
Jim Goldie recorded a 56/1 double with Fear And Fast and Storm On Jura, partnered by Paul Mulrennan and Lauren Young respectively.
The Uplawmoor handler is now just three behind the all-time 199 record winners for a Flat trainer at the East Lothian venue set by now-retired Mark Johnston.
