Stobo Castle Ladies Day - The Countdown is on!
With the legendary sea of crowds oozing style, elegance and high octane glamour, the party atmosphere is unlike any other. And of course, there’s the top racing. Yes, it can only be the inimitable Stobo Castle Ladies Day at Musselburgh Racecourse which is fast approaching!
Thursday 3rd August 2023

It’s one of the biggest and most prestigious events in Scotland’s racing calendar with visitors from all over the country flocking to the five star course for what has become an unofficial fashion platform for decades. This year marks luxury destination spa Stobo Castle’s tenth and final sponsorship of the raceday.
Marvin Humes to DJ After-racing party

Thousands are set to indulge in a day of the best race horsing in Scotland on 11 August combined with five star entertainment and the renowned after party, this year featuring an after party DJ set by TV and radio star, Marvin Humes, from JLS fame.
“I know that everyone will be dressed to impress,” reveals Marvin. “It will be a fantastic celebration of style, music and fun.”
Marvin is spot on. Because, for everyone, it’s all about the style and coming dressed to impress…especially when there’s over £4000 worth of prizes up for grabs for the Best Dressed and Best Hat. These competitions come as part of an exclusive collaboration with Powder Design UK for The Style Awards and judges this year include Scottish style bloggers Beth McGill, Lois, Everyday Man, Zara and BBC Traitors winner, Meryl Williams.
So, what are the judges looking for this year?

BBC Traitors’ winner Meryl, who admits her default Ladies Day style will be monochrome and classics in pastels, is on the lookout for “dapper men and sassy ladies.” To stand out from the crowd for her, she says it’s all about: “Colourful people with adventurous outfit that show their personality and character.”
For award-winning influencer John Robertson, creator of digital platform Everyday Man it’s all about classical pairings. He explains:
“I’m always a fan of classics with a twist so I’ll be looking at ways people have made classic styles and designs their own. Aside from that, it’s great to see people enjoying fashion so I’ll be keeping a look out for people having fun with what they are wearing too.”
Like Meryl, his top tip is to not be afraid of colour, stressing that Ladies Day is where you can really go all out.
“For the guys, I’d say don’t forget to accessorise,” he adds. “Accessories can elevate a fairly basic looking suit into a fully put together tailored outfit. Watches, pocket squares, belts and the all-important tie pin are musts.”
And don’t forget headwear.
“Hats and fascinators can really accentuate an outfit if paired up nicely,” admits Meryl. “For me, there are the two ends of the spectrum – less is more or totally over the top! Either way, they are fun.”
And if you need any more convincing, Musselburgh Racecourse’s Aisling Johnston, a Ladies Day stalwart sums it up.
“A sear of style, elegance and glamour is promised for everyone involved. There are nearly not enough words to describe the exquisite looks, fashion and horse racing that make Stobo Castle Ladies Day so renowned in Scotland.”
There are limited tickets available for Ladies Day 2023, priced at £55 per person, available to buy here. Gates open at 11.30am, with the first race starting at 2.20pm and the last race at 4.50pm. The after party, featuring Marvin Humes, starts at 5pm.
