LAST year’s third Trojan Sun is after a fifth course strike in the marathon £20,000 feature race on Musselburgh’s twilight card.

Jim Goldie’s stayer is ridden by Amie Waugh in the Scots Association Musselburgh Gold Cup, a handicap staged over 2m 2f.

The six-year-old has winning form at the East Lothian venue at 1m 6f and two miles as well as landing the 2024 Portobello Cup over course and distance.

“He was also third in this year’s Portobello Cup, which we won with Gallus Norman, and he clearly loves the track,” Goldie said. “It is a benefit if he can be ridden positively as he isn’t a horse with a lot of gears.”

The opposition to Trojan Sun includes fellow course winners Fast Fred and Simple Star while Karl Thornton’s Irish raider Boxing Great is on a hat-trick following narrow victories at Leopardstown and Down Royal.
